Our promise to the Handyman community

Handyman is owned and operated by Datalani Technology. We operate as a secure marketplace that connects verified service providers with households, businesses, and organisations across Namibia. This policy explains how we handle personal information, mitigate risk, and respond to disputes while keeping the experience safe for every person involved.

Last updated: 09 November 2025

Important: Handyman reserves the right to suspend or remove any profile, booking, or communication that violates this policy, local laws, or community safety expectations.

Information we collect

We collect the minimum data required to activate accounts, match jobs, and deliver support:

  • Account identifiers (full name, mobile number, email, national ID details for providers)
  • Location information to route jobs and verify service areas
  • Project details, messages, preferred visit times, and media files shared through the app or website
  • Device and usage data (logs, IP address, time stamps) to detect suspicious activity
  • Billing references when payments are handled through approved Datalani channels

We do not store raw card numbers or national IDs in plain text. Sensitive documents are encrypted and only accessible to authorised compliance reviewers.

How we use your data

  • Match service requests with verified providers based on skills, availability, and location
  • Authenticate accounts, maintain safety records, and trace misuse or fraud
  • Provide job tracking, scheduling, and customer support communication
  • Generate summaries or compliance reports requested by regulators
  • Improve the reliability of the platform through analytics and training

We never sell personal data. We only share information with your explicit consent, to complete a booking, or where required by Namibian law enforcement.

Security & fraud prevention

  • All provider profiles undergo ID verification, police clearance review, and manual approval.
  • Encryption is applied at rest and in transit for core systems hosted by Datalani Technology.
  • Automated monitoring flags phishing attempts, duplicate accounts, and suspicious financial behaviour.
  • We maintain an incident-response rota to freeze accounts or job activity when abuse is detected.
  • Every job record is timestamped to support investigations, audits, or dispute resolution.

If you suspect a scam or unsafe behaviour

Please report immediately if you notice any of the following:

  • Requests for upfront cash deposits outside the app without official documentation
  • Pressure to share passwords, ID scans, one-time pins, or to bypass Datalani support
  • Violence, intimidation, or discrimination during work on-site
  • Impersonation of Handyman staff or falsified certifications

Do not proceed with a booking if you feel unsafe. Contact us so we can pause the request, reassign a provider, or escalate to emergency services when required.

Payments, refunds & disputes

  • Customers only pay once a job card is agreed. Service providers retain control over their pricing.
  • Datalani Technology can facilitate digital payments or escrow where available; otherwise transactions occur directly between the parties.
  • We track payment agreements in-app to document scope, cost, and acceptance in case of disagreements.
  • Chargebacks, damages, or unpaid labour will trigger a structured dispute review; repeated offences lead to suspension.
  • We cooperate with banks, insurers, or law enforcement to resolve financial crime or theft.

Responsibilities of service providers

  • Maintain valid permits, trade qualifications, and safety certifications relevant to the services offered.
  • Ensure all assistants or subcontractors are declared and comply with Handyman vetting.
  • Protect customer property, confidentiality, and physical safety at all times.
  • Use the app or website for messaging so conversations remain auditable in the event of a dispute.
  • Inform Datalani immediately if a job site becomes unsafe, confrontational, or deviates from the agreed scope.

Responsibilities of customers & organisations

  • Provide accurate job descriptions, access conditions, and site hazards before work begins.
  • Verify the identity of the technician who arrives by checking the app profile or reference code.
  • Do not share passwords, bank pins, or make payments outside the documented channels.
  • Report harassment, damages, or fraud attempts as soon as they occur.
  • Respect the professional boundaries of providers—no discrimination, threats, or unsafe demands.

Data retention & deletion

  • Active account data is retained as long as you use the service and up to seven years for compliance purposes.
  • Closed accounts are archived securely and then anonymised or deleted according to Namibian statutory requirements.
  • You may request access, correction, or deletion by emailing privacy[at]datalani.com. Government ID may be required to verify the request.

Children and vulnerable persons

Handyman is intended for adults (18+) who are legally able to enter service agreements. If work involves schools, clinics, or vulnerable individuals, both the customer and provider must comply with all safeguarding policies and provide chaperones where necessary. Datalani Technology will report any suspicion of exploitation or abuse to relevant authorities.

Policy updates

We may revise this policy to reflect new laws, security requirements, or marketplace features. Major changes will be announced via in-app notices, email, and on Instagram. Continued use of Handyman confirms acceptance of any revised terms.
